Instead of investing in a Mars mission, it might be better to use those funds to improve the Earth and make it a better place to live. Earth is the birth place of humans.

So if we get rocks back from mars , since earth collect 500 kg of rock per year , the exchange would go from earth to mars too, so how to we know when eventually get samp[les back from mars, they its not just peaces of earth?

As long as NASA has anything to do with anything involving space, no one will go anywhere. But they'll keep on collecting funding for their BS. Insanity is doing the SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN expecting a different result. And here we are in 2024 and they're still farting around with solid fuel rocket engines while privately owned companies are running circles around them... not to mention David Adair and the engines he wants to build but sonce NASA hates the man, he can't get the permissions he needs here in the states. He's had to go to another country to work and his payment is 15 of his engines.

The ultraviolet radiation on mars is far greater than here on earth , and would sterilize any living life form except us who must ware protection anyway . Hmm ,🤔, 56:16 , the isolation , cabin fever . The psychological effects of feer over months can’t be any worse than going to prison . Yes , prison food is just as bad as they say it is . Prisoners do get some time out side their cells for recreation , but during the bush years , the prisoners were locked down a lot . The worst ones went off first . The security level 4 s . The lifer inmates . Unrest and protests and even riots . My observation was that the lesser the security level , the more likely they would make efforts to get along . So intelegence has a lot to do with it . Total isolation is a definite No no . That’s torture , and inhumane . Socializing is a plus . Keep in mind , women in this small society helps too .

Zubrin has some interesting ideas . With one draw back . Mars direct is too simple . At each point there needs to be a way station of types . From here , a station to keep an eye on things . ( airport tower ) then establish a base on earths moon . Use the moon as a jumping off point , to an orbital station at mars , then establish a base on the planet mars . Humans use a system of conveyance to move things along . I hand an item to one fella and he passes it off to the next man , until loaded . In a chain . Teamwork . We had a space truck . NASA retired it . But that truck is the way to move things .

If Dr. Zubrin is so determined to have a manned mission to Mars, let him be the first to sacrifice his life in the pursuit. Stop encouraging others to take on such a suicidal mission. Why bring Man's "stagnation and decay" to another world? Either we solve our own problems, or we die in our own waste products.

Well we will have to be off this planet in a billion years. But I say we need to invent a faster propulsion system first that can push a lot larger spacecraft than we could send there now. I just don’t see people being able to live in such a small space for months on the end.

We need to develop higher energy dense propulsion system first.

Our once vigorous space program, a nation's program not a "for profit based" enterprise, was intentionally shut down along with our science/industrial based economy. Thats it in a nutshell. We allowed our future to be dictated by a handful of elites who bankrupted us in less than 50 years. Now instead of admitting their crime they start wars. Oh and Obama, well he hated space being in our future.

Today is the 26th of February, 2024. None of their predictions came even close. There are two things that they would not be aware of back then: 1) The Apollo missions were all staged on movie sets. We didn't have the technology to address the many issues re going to the moon. Some of these that prevented Apollo 11 were mentioned in this 9 year old documentary: the Van Allen radiation belt (the lunar module had zero protection and the rocket leaving Earth could not do it due to a bunch of constraints. 2) NASA (never a straight answer) is a hug money laundering enterprise for the military Black ops budget, stealing tax money to fund them and the crumbs left over allow NASA to put of a show with unmanned probes, etc. One major expense is the Secret Space Force and their alien-technology spacecraft. When Close Encounters of the Third Kind privately premiered for a select few of high ranking government officials and most likely military generals, one of the guys from the Skunk Works (Ben Rich, I think), turned around and stated to the small audience "we have the technology to take ET home again". The "UFOS" most people are seeing are Alien Reproduction Vehicles (ARVs), piloted by humans and sometimes mixed crews with ETs. So, instead of the billions spent on phony moon missions, we could (and possibly we did) establish moon bases and also on Mars. Re an extinct Martian population, read Dr Richard Brandenburg's book " the Death of Mars". It's his contention that there was a nuclear war eons ago and an isotope that can only be present in the ground is the clue. NOTE: it's also present in the ground near Trinity where the atomic bombs were tested. No where else in the US. Apologies for the lengthy comment but just some thoughts looking back 9 years ago.
